The Rafter TS Wagon Company Chuck Wagon is a competition ready year model 1893 “Bain Wagon”. The Bain Company was a freight line company and considered the Cadillac of wagons during it’s time period. The freight wagons were used to carry the chuck boxes that were built to your specifications and added to the rear of the wagon. Complete with a fly (tarp is we call it now days!) staked off the rear of the wagon for some protection from the elements. A chuck wagon served as the “general store” for the cowboys as well. If they needed to shave all the comforts of home were there! If they were sick, the camp cook had his remedies ready. He also had tobacco available; you traded labor (washed dishes) for a cigarette paper and some tobacco! If you really wanted to please the cook, just gather some wood along the trail and as you rode, come by the wagon and toss it under the wagon in the cowhide sling hangin’ there! The wagon was where the cowboys packed their bed roll, got their water, their horse shoeing tools were in the tool box and they got two square meals a day. Yes, two, and they better grab a extra biscuit and some jerky for noon hunger pangs, cause camp cookie didn’t set up for a lunch picnic!
So we have come a long since the days of the long cattle drives north because we here at the Rafter TS Wagon Company believe in feedin’ you whenever!
